Keeps your email spam and virus-free without requiring additional IT resources to constantly maintain a clean email environment.
BEST-IN-CLASS PROTECTION AGAINST SPAM, VIRUSES, AND UNWANTED CONTENT
Spam… it inundates email servers with useless information, eats up storage space, and distracts employees who have to sift through message after message of unwanted content. While most email security and filtering solutions have barely evolved over the last few years, Iron Mountain Digital has broken the mold with a completely new generation of email filtering technology that is more effective, easier for administrators and users to manage, and able to scale to meet the needs of the largest global enterprises.
As part of Iron Mountain’s Total Email Management Suite, the Security Service for Email automatically inspects more than 350,000 attributes of incoming email messages to eliminate spam, viruses, and unwanted content from your email environment. Leveraging Proofpoint’s best in-class MLX technology, the Security Service is able to provide the highest rate of spam and virus elimination with the fewest false positives.
Unlike other managed email security services, the Security Service is fully integrated with Microsoft Exchange, Outlook®, and Active Directory. It’s the only managed service to leverage real-time directory synchronization to fully automate user management, to automatically add personal contacts to safe lists, and to ensure that invalid addresses are blocked at the perimeter. Iron Mountain’s Security Service allows users to manage safe/block lists directly from Microsoft Outlook. There is no need for users to access another system, remember new usernames and passwords, or learn a new application.
BUILT UPON THE MOST POWERFUL MULTI-LEVEL SPAM AND VIRUS ENGINE
Iron Mountain’s Security Service for Email is built upon the most sophisticated analysis engine available today. The Security Service uses Proofpoint’s best-in-class MLX engine to inspect every conceivable attribute of incoming messages, including IP addresses, message envelope headers, and message structure — as well as unstructured content in the body of messages. The large number of attributes analyzed by the MLX Anti-Spam Engine ensures that messages are classified with a high degree of confidence.
These attribute-extraction layers include:
- Connection Level. The Security Service provides a stateful first line of defense against spam by testing numerous connection-level data points including DNS, MX record verification, and MLX Dynamic Reputation™ information. The service also defends against directory harvest and denial of service attacks.
- Contextual Analysis. The Security Service examines the context of the message, using structural tests, English and foreign language inspection, pornography detection, URL inspection, targeted rules for detecting “phishing” attacks and a corporate lexicon adapter to customize the solution to your industry. Unlike other solutions, the Security Service is able to parse and identify the latest animated- GIF and graphic-based spam.
Alternative products classify upwards of 40% of messages in the unknown area, not sure if the message is spam or valid. Valid messages are often blocked and unwanted content makes its way into user mailboxes. The Security Service’s MLX technology performs an order of magnitude better, discarding spam messages before they impact your email servers and quarantining the absolute minimum amount to end-users.
For virus protection, the Security Service uses multiple virus engines including the industry-leading F-Secure® engine to efficiently scan messages and attachments for potentially malicious code. Because virus protection is fully integrated into the service, each message is opened just once and virus scanning is performed in parallel with other forms of message analysis. The Security Service has the capacity to prevent long mail delays often found with alternative solutions.
To ensure total protection and minimize maintenance, Iron Mountain’s Security Service for Email fully automates analysis engine configuration, user management, and administration. For example, the service automatically synchronizes directory information and personal contact lists from major email systems to ensure that safe lists include an accurate list of email addresses and aliases.
